Gennady Krasnikov was appointed Acting Chairman of the Department of Nanotechnologies and Information Technologies RAS

MERI general director, RAS Academician Gennady Krasnikov was appointed Acting Chairman of the Department of Nanotechnologies and Information Technologies RAS (ONIT) by the decree of the RAS Presidium.  Gennady Krasnikov’s appointment was approved by the majority of the Department members.

The Department of Nanotechnologies and Information Technologies RAS, founded in 1983 (previously The Department of Computer Science, Engineering and Automation), was based on 4 institutions of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR: Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics, Computing Center, The Institute for Information Transmission Problems and Leningrad Institute for Informatics and Automation. Now the Department manages the work on RAS basic research programs, rules 29 scientific institutions and 5 councils in Russia, releases 8 scientific journals. The scientific branches represented by the Department intersect many disciplines.

In their research activities, scientists of the Department rely on a number of sections of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, psychology and other sciences, developing and enriching these sections with both mathematical and experimental research methods.

The Department consists of several sections: Information technologies and automation section; Computer, location, telecommunication systems and components section; Section of Nanotechnology. The Department objectives include ideas generating to influence the government policy for information, strengthening existing state programs, funding basic researches through Russian Foundation for Basic Research and other private funds.

A number of scientific programs in computer science, telecommunication and microelectronics were organized with the help of the scientists of the Department. These programs are aimed at science and technologies development in  Russian Federation.
