The Microelectronics Russian Forum took place

The 11th Microelectronics Russian Forum-2025 has opened at the Sirius Science and Technology University in Russia in Sochi city.

The plenary session was attended by Mikhail Mishustin (Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation), Denis Manturov (First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation), Andrey Fursenko (Assistant to the President of Russia), Gennady Krasnikov (President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Scientific Director of MERI), Anton Alikhanov (Minister of Industry and Trade), Valery Falkov (Minister of Science and Higher Education), Dmitry Bakanov (CEO of the State Corporation for Space Activities 'Roscosmos').

During a tour of the Forum exhibition, the CEO of MERI Alexander Kravtsov demonstrated to the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin prototype microcontrollers, processors and other microchips developed by MERI as part of the work on transferring the production of microchips from foreign to Russian factories. Currently prototype microchips have been produced in Russia and are undergoing preliminary tests at Russian enterprises. A. Kravtsov also demonstrated heterostructures created by MERI on GaAs (gallium arsenide) and InP (indium phosphide) substrates, which possess unique properties and allow the creation of highly efficient semiconductor devices. Together with partners, the institute is working on integrating security solutions NE51IOT microchip into this module. The chip protects against the substitution of telemetry and identification data, as well as ensures the authenticity of the information source.

Opening the plenary session, the Chairman of the Government of Russia, Mikhail Mishustin, congratulated the participants on the start of the Forum: «This is a strategic area for our country, which is of key importance for strengthening its technological sovereignty, developing a modern digital economy and increasing the competitiveness of our products and services. It affects all aspects of people's lives. The President of Russia has set the task of increasing the production of electronic industry products to 6.3 trillion rubles within the next 6 years. This should allow us to meet most of the country's needs. Moreover, to be precise – we calculated – this is about 70%. For all of us these are now the guidelines on the basis of which all future work will have to be built. It is important that a good foundation has been laid for the implementation of the upcoming transformations», Mikhail Mishustin said.

Answering the question of the moderator of the plenary session about the future of silicon microelectronics, the Chairman of the Program Committee of the Microelectronics Russian Forum, head of the priority direction 'Electronic Technologies of the Russian Federation,' academician Gennady Krasnikov noted that it would remain the foundation of the industry for the next twenty years. At the same time, he emphasized that hybrid systems, including photonic and quantum technologies, will be developed in parallel, which will complement traditional silicon ones for solving special tasks.

Speaking about the potential areas of application of such technologies and new opportunities, Gennady Krasnikov noted, «We are mainly talking about artificial intelligence and machine learning as the foundation of all this remains microelectronics. These are also supercomputers. The important task now is to switch to offline mode so as not to transmit huge streams of data to remote computing centers, but to solve problems autonomously. Everything around us — communication, positioning, unmanned systems, robotics — largely relies on microelectronic technologies».
